I’ve always had a soft spot for the VW Bug, and someday, I’d love to own one. Other than their uber-sloppy gearboxes—I think the shifter feels like a mop in a bucket—I’ve never had an issue with any of the little car’s characteristics. But I don’t think anybody would argue that it couldn’t use a little more power, and power certainly isn’t going to be a problem with this project. In place of the stock unit,this baby is sporting a motor from a Subaru WRX STi, and while the bodywork hardly looks stock, I think its performance is going to surprise anyone who’s not in on the joke.
