LeMons Arse Freeze-A-Palooza People's Choice Winner: The Bi-Polar Express Mustang! [24 Hours Of Lemons]

The People's Choice award at the 24 Hours Of LeMons goes to the team that best embodies the spirit of the event, and the crop of contenders at the Arse Freeze-A-Palooza was the best yet.

Chief Perpetrator Lamm determines the People's Choice winner by wandering the pits and seeking the opinions of the rabble (in the old days, the rabble had a chance to vote directly, but that turned out to be too much hassle). There were several really strong contenders, including the Family Truckster Pinto.


The Faster Farms Chickens team was also considered a People's Choice powerhouse, but they ended up taking the equally coveted Dangerous Banned Technology trophy for their bowling-ball-actuated ironing-board wing.


And, of course, you've got to include the mighty Porcubimmer on the People's Choice short list. Pricks outside! But it's hard to argue with a team that builds a 400-pound particle-board steam locomotive that towers eight feet above their Mustang, so in the end it was the train that got the thousand bucks in People's Choice prize nickels. It didn't handle so well on the track, but the drivers were polite and were pretty good about not getting in the way of the quicker cars. Congratulations, Bi-Polar Express!

Big 3 Performance brings another Mustang Model to the Big Pony Party

Just when you thought the table was set and all parties have found their seat another participant finds a seat at the table and opens up a high-octane beverage. There are more Mustang variations of the current pony body style than some manufacturers have models in their line-up. So why should there be another? Two reasons should sum it up well enough: Because they can and because there’s a demand.

Big 3 Performance will be producing their own take on the Mustang with a 100 car production plan that samples some of the best of the after-market parts available. Out of the 100 cars to be built there will be 20 of them showcasing a 650-hp engine. That will give this pony production car some of the highest horsepower ratings of all current Mustangs. With an aim at strong performance and some gunning-for-ya fascia the Big 3 Performance team will be acquiring plenty of affectionate looks.

The Boss is Back: Boss 302 Mustang debuts at SEMA

It’s just an engine, but a famously named engine. The Boss 302 is not the name of a new Mustang model – although it probably will be – it’s the name of Ford’s new V-8 crate engine for hot-rodders. The 5.0-liter powerplant was originally developed under the name “Hurricane” and was set to take on Chrysler’s resurrected Hemi line of engines . The name and entire project were scrapped -- the name because of the devastation of Katrina last year and the project itself because of cost cuts. Now, Ford has revived the concept and fans should expect the Boss 302 to find its way into the next generation of F-150 trucks and the redesigned Mustang when it debuts in 2009.

For now, gearheads will have to wait until early next year when just the engine will be made available through Ford Racing dealers. Then they can customize their own Boss 302 Mustang like the concept shown here.

Ford Mustang Personality Test: Hemi Powered ‘69 Fastback or Brand New Shelby Super Snake?

Ok, here’s a personality test. We made ourselves a nuisance at the chassis shop the other day only to find a pair of killer, but completely opposite Mustangs. One is a 1969 fastback sporting more than 600ci of rare Alan Root—headed Ford Hemi and the other is a blown, totally decked out 2009 Shelby Super Snake.

Which one would you prefer? The high-class modern guy with all the bells and whistles, or the ancient burly cave man who’d thump you with a stick if you stepped out of line? Check out all the photos after the jump and let your opinion be known.

Call it project Sniper, project Nitemare, or just bat poop crazy, but Scott Vanderschoor’s twin-turbo, Viper V10 powered Mustang project has officially transitioned from garage-bound dream to functioning automobile status and we have the video to prove it.

The link was sent to us by Scott Clark (DieselGeek on the forums) who spends some of his spare time doing what he’s doing in this video, tuning and dialing in fuel injection setups on cars that range from fairly tame to, well, this.

Vanderschoor, it needs to be mentioned is a home builder, and he performed the work on every aspect of this amazing project. He’s been providing photo updates throughout the build on the BangShift.com forums.

This is a quickie video that shows the car’s first fire up and Clark establishing a baseline to have the car idle and behave itself well enough to get it onto the dyno rollers and really put the wood to that big V10.

We’re excited to see this monster get all the hiccups out of its system and start making numbers on the chassis dyno. This project has been a long term affair for Vanderschoor and the amount of work that it has entailed, like moving the firewall back nearly half a foot, is really amazing and speaks to his dedication to this car.
